Monongahela Recordings

These audio recordings were captured deep in the Monongahela National Forest after sunset on November 7, 2009.

This pack of coyotes fired up some distance to the south of my campsite, just a couple hours after sun down.

Another coyote pack howl, about an hour after the first, and this time far to the west of my camp.

The recorder was poorly positioned to pick up this high pitched, scream-like sound at about 5:30 p.m. My ears heard more than the recorder.

Later investigation suggests that this scream-like vocal was actually a "whistle-screech", commonly emitted by a female barred owl.
